Dil toh Baccha HAi Ji Hindi Movie Review:

Known for making serious, hard hitting, socially relevant films like Chandni Bar, Fashion, Corporate, Jail and many more - director Madhur Bhandarkar, this time around, opts for a light hearted entertainer. His last such experiment (Aan Men at work) way back in 2004 was a box office disaster. Does Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji break the popular belief that Bhandarkar cannot handle non-serious subjects?

    Story:
Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji is about Naren Ahuja (Ajay Devgan), Abhay (Emraan Hashmi) and Milind (Omi Vaidya). Naren, in his late 30s, works for a multinational company and has a crush on a girl named June (Shazhan Padamsee). To impress her, he goes through a complete image makeover. Nikhil, a playboy is slowly starting to realise he is falling in love with Nikki (Shruti Hassan) and Milind, a poet, is head over heels in love with Gunjan (Shraddha Das).

    Artist Performance:
Ajay proves his adaptability and versatility yet again. Having impressed us adequately in the past, Ajay portrays a character that takes you back to a very popular actor of his times, Amol Palekar. Ajay underplays his part effortlessly. Emraan, popular also for his skirt chaser image on screen, plays an obsessive philanderer here and he's electrifying. In fact, he spices up the proceedings every time he appears on screen. The role assigned to him is an extension of what he's attempted in the past, yet he interprets it so differently. Omi Vaidya's character gets subdued initially, but it must be said that the earnestness with which he portrays his part makes him endearing. He's remarkable in the sequence when he breaks down while reading the letter. Shazahn looks like a doll and gets the character right. In fact, she adds so much freshness to the proceedings. Shraddha gives the right shades to her character. She's most convincing when she takes Omi for a ride initially. Shruti appears late in the film, but she leaves an impact nonetheless. Her scenes with Emraan are amusing. Tisca Chopra is superb, especially in the sequence when Emraan confesses that he's in love with someone else. Mukesh Tiwari is first-rate in a brief role. Aditya Raj Kapoor is fair. Rituparna Sengupta does well. Harward Rosemeyer leaves a mark in the funeral sequence.

    Technical and Other Departments:
The screenplay writing is absorbing at most times. Having said that, I'd like to add that the writing could've been tighter at places. Shraddha's sudden exit leaves you mystified. Also, the film could've done with better names [read, eye candy] in the finale, when the three guys set out for Goa. The climax was already a highpoint and one definitely expected a better culmination. Also, the film could've been tightened in the editing suite. The expectations from its music are on the higher side, especially after the success of Pritam-Ajay-Emraan's last venture ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI. But the problem is that it does not offer much variety, unlike OUATIM. 'Abhi Kuch Dino Se' and 'Tere Bin' are my picks. Cinematography [Ravi Walia] is up to the mark. Sanjay Chhel's dialogue are witty and just perfect for this genre.

    Analysis:
The film is about the extent to which the three different characters go, to get their love..Dil Toh Baccha Hai Ji starts off well and the uniqueness that each character has in the film, works in its favour. Ajay Devgan's story is the pick of the three, mainly because of his acting. The scenes that Emraan shares with Tisca Chopra are short but refreshing. The pace dips in the second half and the film is a bit longer than it should have been.

    Final View:
On the whole, DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI is a feel good, light-hearted rom-com, a slice of life film which the populace and the regular lay person would relate to. Madhur Bhandarkar changes tracks from his trademark women-oriented movies on contemporary issues to a rom-com, which has the unmistakable Bhandarkar signature to it, and emerges triumphant in his new fangled endeavor. The film carries a tagline that reads 'Love grows… Men don't', which seems most appropriate after one has watched it. DIL TOH BACCHA HAI JI, with its bona fide characters and pertinent situations, promises to bring a smile to your face and cheer you up. I strongly recommended it!Source URL: https://newnewnew7.blogspot.com/2011/01/

Gopichand New Telugu Film Wanted Movie Review:

    Story:

Rambabu (Gopichand) is a happy go lucky chap who does nothing for career, and doesn’t mind a ‘fight’ for the heck of it. Inspite of this, his parents love him completely because they think they have earned enough for him. Rambabu comes across Nandini (Deeksha Seth), a house surgeon. When the girl saves his mom’s life, Rambabu falls for her and chases her. After almost following her everywhere, saving her from goons few times, Rambabu gets frustrated and asks her what she wants him to do to prove his love for her. The girl asks him to kill Basava Raju (Prakash Raj) and company, as a revenge for killing her honest cop father (Nazar) and her entire family. Rambabu goes after the goons and kills them one by one.

    Artist Performance:
Gopichand has done similar kind of roles, good number of times and it’s time for Gopichand to take special care on scripts and avoid films like Wanted, which has a routine stuff with thin storyline. Deeksha Seth is certainly the USP of the film with her enough oomph and looks. She did reasonably well to her role, but needs to improve interms of acting to make it big in Tollywood. Prakash Raj is perfect as villain but it’s another regular role for him. Subbaraju is apt, Ahuti Prasad, Chandramohan, Jayasudha and Nazar did their justice to their roles. Brahmanandam generates few laughs and Ali is ok in his limited role.

    Technical and Other Departments:

Cinematography is just about good, though the songs have been shot decently well. Chakri’s music for the songs is good too, but he should do something more to accentuate emotional scenes in a movie. Dialogues are funny when required, but end up being too loud in ‘drama’ situations and too contrived sometimes. Editing is too sloppy and the actions sequences are too long to be digestible.

    Analysis:

Cliche works to an extent. Almost every story we see has already been told, but it is the presentation that gives it a different feel. This is exactly where the second half of Wanted fails. Even though the writer wanted to add depth to Deeksha’s character by showing her at strange places with stranger men, we never know what she was doing there with them! The flashback episode, which was used to reason her character, focuses more on gore than on some originally done content! As a result we have a family killed in most inventive ways possible minus the emotions that such a loss can bring. Once we know the flashback anything after it becomes lengthy and the movie still takes few songs and fight sequences to come to an end.

    Final View:

Wanted is a predictable revenge saga, that doesn’t have anything really exciting. It is only for Gopichand’s fans.

Amir Khan New Hindi Film Dhobi Ghat Movie Review:

Every year literally hundreds of thousands throng to the city of dreams, Mumbai. To cover so many dreams in a small span of an-hour-and-a-half calls for some brilliant filmmaking. And watching "Dhobi Ghat" will make you realise that there indeed have been very few debuts as stunning as this one.

    Story:
Arun (Aamir Khan), an upmarket artist meets Shai (Monica Dogra), an NRI investment banker at his exhibition. A chance encounter that may or may not lead to something more substantial in moody Mumbai....Meanwhile, Shai befriends Munna (Prateik), the friendly neighbourhood dhobi who happens to be a wannabe actor too, while Arun gets lost in the video-taped story of Yasmin (Kriti Malhotra), the enigmatic ex-inmate of the house he currently occupies. Will the foursome find what they are looking for in the strange metropolis that both binds and breaks people?

    Artist Performance:
The film marks the debut of Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra, who are exceptional and deliver natural performances. As for Prateik, the ease with which he speaks the slum lingo or converses with his pal or the gentle tone while speaking to the woman he loves [the urbane and classy Shai] proves what a dependable actor he is. The most memorable sequence for me is the concluding one when Prateik chases Shai's car. There's no doubt that he's a complete scene-stealer and a star in the making. His unconventional looks and captivating personality only adds to this performance.

Very much like his performance in TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, Aamir Khan very willingly lets his co-actors eclipse him. Sure, he's super as a cloistered artist, but this film is not about Aamir Khan, the superstar. It's primarily about four stories, with Aamir merely enacting one of the four pivotal characters. In fact, he underplays his part magnificently and munificently allows his fellow cast to be conspicuous in their respective parts. In actuality, not many actors in moviedom would dare to even think that way!

Kittu Gidwani is alright. The actor enacting the role of Prateik's friend does a fine job.

    Technical And OtherDepartments:
Cinematographer Tushar Kanti Ray shoots the film as if one were watching the story unspool live in front of one's own eyes. Academy Award winning Argentine composer Gustavo Santaolalla's [BROKEBACK MOUTAIN, BABEL] background score is captivating, also non-Indian, yet fits the varied moods, from melancholy to elation, admirably. The sole area where the film fumbles is its pacing at places. The results would've been even more impactful if the film was tightened a bit on the editing table.

    Analysis:
Dhobi Ghat is a compelling picture of urban angst that has become the hallmark of big city life. The experiences of the four diverse characters may be varied, but they all have a similar theme. It's a somewhat dysfunctional foursome, desperately seeking an anchor in the shifting sands of a maddening city. Arun openly confesses he is a loner and doesn't try to hide his discomfort on finding Shai trying to get comfortable in his pad, the morning after. Shai spends her sabbatical trying to connect with Munna, her washerman, despite their different backgrounds, when all she'll like to do was finish the unfinished business that lingers between her and Arun. Munna, on his part, is tormented by his passion for the uptown woman he can never hope to hook up with. But it is the existential trauma of the newly married Yasmin which strikes you the most, as the woman pours out her loneliness in video letters to her brother Imran....Letters that become the leitmotif of a crumbling city's soul.

Kiran Rao makes a sensitive debut with Dhobi Ghat, a film that is heavily imbued with mood and soul. She uses her characters smartly to dissect the much talked about spirit of Mumbai without getting maudlin. In fact, the high point of the film is its understated elegance as the lead players slip in and out of the frame, chasing dreams and aspirations. If Aamir Khan enunciates the art of understatement through his delineation of Arun, the women (Monica Dogra and Kriti Malhotra) skillfully juxtapose strength and vulnerability. Prateik's Munna is endearing, despite being a bit too chic for the average neighbourhood dhobi. But eventually, it is the fifth character that overwhelms you with its colours and mercurial mood swings. And that's Maximum City, Mumbai. Tushar Kanti Ray's camera captures Mumbai in all its original hues: black, grey, sunlit, shadowy, chaotic, desolate and surging ahead.

    Final View:
On the whole, DHOBI GHAT is an imposing and vibrant cinematic portrait, appending itself to the new wave of independent Indian cinema which I am extremely pleased to applaud. It is art house cinema with European sensibilities, embellished with a well thought out story that's devoid of cliches. This ingenious motion picture caters more to the intelligentsia and connoisseurs of world cinema and will therefore garner more patronage and benefaction from the metropolitan audience in India chiefly and global spectators predominantly.Source URL: https://newnewnew7.blogspot.com/2011/01/

HOSTEL MOVIE REVIEW

    Hostel Hindi Movie Review :

    Story and Movie Analysis:
Last week in Yamla Pagla Deewana we saw a man hitting Sunny Deol with an iron rod and the rod bending. In the past too we have also seen films like Joshilay where two people have fist fights from dawn to dusk and yet manage to be on their feet. These films are meant to be over the top, larger the life and fun and hence such scenes are accepted. But if you promise that your film will stick close to reality and then show two men beating each other with iron rods and yet they keep fighting it can only mean that you are taking your audience for granted. Everyone knows that one hard hit on the head with an iron rod would not leave you with consciousness enough to stand up and fight, unless we are talking about superheroes.

There are a lot more discrepancies in Mabish Gupte's Hostel. The director had claimed that his film is a gritty and hard hitting film on ragging in college hostels. He also promised that while the film has a fictional story all ragging incidents that he has shown are inspired by real life instances that he has come across in last 17 years.

Despite all the research the film scores low on writing. The writer, who has written films like Sarkar and D, loses way and seems confused how to carry on his story beyond initial ragging scenes. What he hence does is fill up the film with repetitive ragging scenes and some badly shot romantic scenes. By the end you would have seen guys being undressed so many times that you invariably believe that the ones who rag are the most unimaginative villains - they really can't figure anything better to do! Also interesting tracks like drugs and politics are mysteriously introduced and left as it is without any conclusion or reasoning.

    Artist performance:

One of the reasons why HOSTEL doesn't work is because the casting is not right. Barring Mukesh Tiwari, who looks convincing and does well and Nagesh Bhosle [warden], who is equally effective, the actors don't look their parts. Vatsal Sheth relies on a set of expressions all through the film, while Tulip Joshi is wasted. The students don't look like students, frankly. They actually appear more like street thugs or rowdies and less like students of engineering to me.

    Technical and other Departments:
Technically too Hostel is weak. It has been shot very immaturely. The cinematographer seems to be in a Ram Gopal Varma hangover as he comes up with the strangest of angles that made no sense. He needs to imbibe much more from RGV before trying any stunts. The editing is weak too and neither is the music worthy.

    Final View:
On the whole, HOSTEL is a solid idea gone awry.
Dont was Money while watching this Type of film.Source URL: https://newnewnew7.blogspot.com/2011/01/

    Rating: 3 / 5

Nani New Telugu Film Ala Modalaindi Movie Review:

    Story:
A young chap Gautham (Nani) is on his way to Bangalore to stop marriage of his girlfriend who is getting married to another guy. En route, he is kidnapped by John (Ashish Vidhyardhi) and the kidnapper demands him to narrate his story. Gautham tells him that he works with a TV channel and falls in love with a girl (Kriti) but she ditches him for a doctor. On the wedding day of his former girl friend, he meets a drunken girl Nitya (Nitya Menon) who happens to be the former girlfriend of the doctor. Soon friendship blossoms between Nitya and Gautham. As the days pass by, Gautham falls in love with Nitya and when he is about to propose, enters Nitya's fiancée. More such twists and turns follow till the climax. In the end, will Gautham and Nitya meet again or separate forever?

    Artist Performance:
Nani is completely natural, at home while playing the character of Gowtam. He has also shown different variations. His voice is an asset and he used it effectively. Nitya Menon should be lucky to get a role that has lots of substance in it. She epitomized Nitya character with her fabulous performance. She looks beautiful in all kinds of dresses. Nitya Menon’s is the best debut in recent years of Telugu cinema after Samantha in YMC. She dubbed her voice and it suited the character to the tee. Sneha Ullal had a reasonable length character and she is fine. Kriti Karbandha and Chaitanya Krishna did cameos. Rohini and Uppalapati Narayana Rao (film director) adds freshness to parents characters. The friends gang of hero (Mirchi Hemantha, Raja Valluru, Pinky and Rhea) is also appropriately cast. Asish Vidyardhi gave a balanced performance in a crazy character. The guy who did the the role of drunkard software engineer in climax breathed life into the scenes.

    Technical and Other Departments:
On technical front, the movie is dogged by bad visuals (whether it is due to bad grading, or bad digital transfer to UFO is not known). Arjun Jena 's camera work is unimpressive. Two songs by Kalyani Malik are good to ears.

Lakshmi Bhoopal' s dialogue is effective. As a director Nandini Reddy shows spark in handling comedy scenes. Like her guru, she has also extracted some cute expressions from the heroine. Unlike other women directors in the past, she has brought urbane look to the story narration.

    Analysis:
First half of the movie is decent and has sufficient humor though there is no emotional impact. Second half becomes slow-paced, but picks up towards the end. The plus points of the movie are casting and humor. The negative point is the story-orientation. The relationship shown in this movie suits the lifestyle of west. The ‘non-committal’ attitude of lead pair and a relationship that goes on for years might not suit the mentality of our Telugu guys who take every chance at girl to express their love. Hence, the emotional impact of the story will not be there for audiences. Despital of the low emotional quotient, Ala Modalaindi scores well on humor and lighter-vein entertainment aspect. You may watch it.

    Final View:
Ala Modalaindi can be watched once for its comedy in the second half. The twists and turns are also novel. But on the whole, it is just an average flick.

Sumanth New Telugu Film Golconda High School Movie Review:

    Story:
A famous school Golconda High School is going through financial problems to run it. One of the directors of the trustee that runs the school comes with plan - to convert the vast land of play ground into a commercial building and set up a coaching center there. The principal of the school (Tanikella) opposes this idea put forth by the director (Subbaraju). The principle believes that play ground is important for kids for their holistic education. And he brings in ex-student and former cricketer Sampath (Sumanth) to train the school's cricket team so that they could excel in sports and bring back the glory to the school. Sumanth takes the challenge of board directors that if the school's cricket team wins in the coming inter-school championships, the playground wouldn't be touched upon. So how this coach will train the boys who never won a single mach and turn them into champions? That is the rest of the story.

    Artist PerFormance:
Sumanth comes up with his career best performance as coach Sampath in this movie. It is an idealistic and inspiring character. Sumanth’s diction, expressions and body language suited it really well. Sumanth is the right choice for this movie. Swati’s role is not connected with the main story line. If she looked like a playful teen in her earlier movies, Swati is looking like a woman in this movie with sarees and demure performance. Subaraju has a towering screen presence and he proves again his capability as an actor with this movie. In all his earlier movies, Shafi used to dominate the character. He played this character within the boundaries in GHS and he is highly impressive. Tanikella Bharani is excellent. Ravi Prakash is authentic. Though all the seasoned actors performed exceedingly well, it is the kids who are stars of this movie. All the kids who acted as students are extremely natural. Santosh and Sangeet (both of them are sons of late director Sobhan Babu) have acted as Gowtam and Varun. Santosh’s performance is intense. Varun is very cute. Srinivas Sai (who acted as kid Nagarjuna in Kedi) is terrific as hot-blooded youngster. Farooq who played the role of Micky is genuine and effective. Lalith who played the role of sardarji keeper is very good with his performance. I don’t know the names of other kids. But the all the students are perfectly cast. The old man who did the role of attendant is perfect.

    Technical and other Departments:

Top cinematographer Senthil has once again proved that he can give best results to even low-budgeted film. His frames and lighting have gelled with the story. His brilliance is clearly visible in capturing the Cricket game. Editing by Sravan is smooth but he should have cut away some scenes in the first half to speed up the narration. Talented Kalyani Malik once again comes up with innovative tunes - the duet shot on Sumanth and Swathi - is one of best melodies in the recent times. And Vittanam Sarikottaga Molakottutunna Vainam is equally good. Director Indraganti Mohan Krishna proves with the film that he's one of the most sensible directors in Telugu. This reviewer has not seen his Ashta Chemma but after Grahanam, he has shown his mark with this film again.

    Analysis:
Ram Mohan (Art Beat Capital) who produced comedy like Ashta Chemma as his first venture made a brave decision when wanted to make an idealistic and inspiring sports-based movie. The credit for this movie should go to him. Because of the freedom given by the producer, Mohan Krishna Indraganti could able to come with a neat product. All the cast and crew complemented each other’s work. There is an underlying message in the movie to the parents and students. At the same time, the entertainment quotient is intact. GHS might not have regular commercial elements, but has enough content in the movie to make you glued to the screen. On a whole, Golkonda High School is a different yet enjoyable film. You may watch it at your leisure.

    Final View:
Golconda High School is good movie and clean movie. The team should be commended for its effort but it doesn't inspire you. The movie may connect with niche audiences, the film is interesting flick. If more emotional and motivational elements added, the film could have been better. On the whole, it turns out be to be a film that can be watched for once.Source URL: https://newnewnew7.blogspot.com/2011/01/
